PVC comes in some pretty wide ranges of density & is widely used in MODERN marine construction. With large ovens & care, it is even shape-able. It often comes with options for drilled holes or machined grooves to help resin flow for infusion. Presumably the plain sheets are cheaper, if using rollers/hand-lay-ups?
